Donna has been doing hair (and more)
for 27 years and she certainly has developed a masterly touch. In
fact, in 2000 she won first place for overall total look in hair,
nails, and make-up during the Princess Cruise Lines' Supernatural
Salon International Beauty Expo.
Back in 1989, Donna also knew that skin care was important
to women on the go. She thought it was a shame that people
only treated themselves to "the spa life" on vacations.
She envisioned "a one stop spa salon" for busy women
who wanted more than just their nails and hair to be perfect.
Donna wanted to create a service that would be available 2
or 3 times a year, not just on vacations! (Even when Donna
was a little girl she was thinking about making people feel
good, so being the proprietor of a full-service spa salon
comes from her natural desires.)
Okay, that explains Donna's involvement, but how did Mike get started
in the spa/salon profession? Well, as it typically happens in life,
an unexpected event created new opportunities. Mike's crossroad came
when the bank he worked for began restructuring in 1989, the same
year Donna's vision became an obsession. Mike was ready for a change—so
he began a new career by attending skin care school.
Two years later in 1991, after Mike's graduation, Donna's
previous business, More Than Hair became More
Than Hair Day Spa.
Donna and Mike call themselves visionaries. They just might
be on to something, because the 2000 Princess Cruise Lines'
Supernatural Salon International Beauty Expo also recognized
Donna and Mike with a Salon Excellence award.
